What Are Dental Implants

Patients who have lost their teeth regain the ability to eat virtually anything they want as well as smile with confidence. They also have peace of mind knowing that their teeth appear natural and that their facial contours will be preserved. The implant itself is a tiny titanium post that is placed into the jaw bone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium and creates a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Dental implants play an important part in preserving dental health, as well. They can help preserve facial structure, and prevent bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

Simply put, dental implants are changing the way people with tooth loss live! They help restore comfort and the confidence to eat, speak, laugh and enjoy life once again.

Dental Implant Evaluation

If you are considering implant dentistry, we require you to undergo a dental and radiographic examination as well as a health history evaluation. During these consultation visits with your doctor, we will address your specific needs and considerations or refer you to an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. We take your questions and concerns seriously and our team will work closely with you to help make your procedure a success.

Dental Implant Procedure

Dental implants are metal anchors, which act as tooth root substitutes. The procedure consists of surgically placing the implants into the jaw bone. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts provide strong and stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.

The placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures for most patients. To begin, the implants are placed within your jaw bone. For three to six months following surgery, there is a healing period where the implants gradually bond with the jaw bone. During this time you should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet. At the same time, your restorative dentist designs the final bridgework or denture, to restore both the function and aesthetics of your teeth.

After the implant has bonded to the jaw bone, the second phase of the treatment begins. The surgeon will uncover the implants and attach a small healing collar to the area. Dr. Klasinski will then start the process to make your new teeth. This includes taking an impression and connecting the posts or attachments to the implants. The replacement teeth are then placed over the posts or attachments. The entire implant procedure usually takes six to eight months, however, most patients do not experience any disruption in their daily life.

I’m new to this dentistry but I have had very good experiences so far. Recently, a part of an onlay chipped off and I called to get an appointment as soon as I could. They got me in quickly, Dr Garrett examined it, and came up with a good solution. He repaired my tooth that day, reasonably, and I’m so relieved and grateful. Gibbs, the resident “therapy” dog is awesome too. All together a well rounded, professional and warm environment, with kind people.
