Non-Surgical Root Canal

With well over 14 million root canals performed every year, it is one of the most common dental procedures. It is a simple treatment that can save your natural teeth while preventing the need for dental implants or bridges.

What is a root canal?

At the center of your tooth is pulp, which is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Pulp can become infected by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Infected tooth symptoms include swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.

Root Canal Treatment

If you experience the above symptoms, your dentist will likely recommend a non-surgical treatment to eliminate the infected pulp. During the treatment the injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. The procedure usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the extent of the infection. 90% of cases realize success with this type of treatment. In the case that your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of your consultation. We’ll also inform you when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment. Local anesthesia is used to eliminate discomfort or we will provide nitrous oxide analgesia if it is called for. After the treatment, you will be able to drive home and return to your normal routine.

After Treatment

Your doctor will decide on what type of restoration is necessary to protect your tooth after your treatment is complete. Please note that it is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. In the case a problem does occur, please contact us immediately. Continue to practice good dental hygiene to prevent further decay.

Cost

The cost associated with this particular procedure varies depending on factors such as how badly the tooth is damaged and which tooth is affected. Endodontic treatment, however, is much less expensive than a tooth removal with artificial tooth replacement.

The new dentist was great . He did a terrific job fixing my front tooth the way I wanted it done.
Laura Meyer
Today my appointment was for placing the crown on. Honestly, the whole procedure was the smoothest experience for a crown I ever had. It feels great. Everything that Dr. Sara or Angela did they explained first. We changed dentists after our dentist of 40 years retired. It was hard having to come to a new place, but we sure are happy to be at Kewaskum Family Dentistry!

Everyone was very friendly and compassionate. They made me feel very comfortable. They fully explained my options to proceed and made sure I understood what was said. The place itself is absolutely beautiful! I did not get to meet Gibbs, the comfort dog at the practice today but can't wait to see him there as well!
