Do you know about this other important November holiday?
We feel like we were just sharing tips to care for your teeth over the summer, and here we are already in the middle of fall! Time sure does fly by! We are sure that many of our patients are preparing for their Thanksgiving festivities, but we don’t want them to forget about the important day that follows turkey day. No, we aren’t talking about planning out your shopping trip in honor of the retail holiday Black Friday. Read on to learn about the lesser-known holiday you should be celebrating on November 26th.
National Flossing Day
While you are out shopping in preparation for your Thanksgiving festivities, we hope you also put some dental floss in your shopping cart to prepare for National Flossing Day. Established in 2000, this special day was created to promote awareness and educate patients about the importance of flossing for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Do you make it a point to floss every day? We know that some of our patients forget this important step in their oral hygiene routine.
The American Dental Association recommends flossing once per day, and we concur. Flossing is a great way to remove bacteria and plaque that is left behind after brushing. When you brush, you are not always able to remove leftover food particles from between your teeth and along the gum line. Flossing helps prevent:
- Bad breath
- Tooth decay
- Gum disease
Aside from flossing and brushing, one of the best ways to maintain great oral health is to visit our office every six months for a hygiene examination and cleaning. If it has been some time since we’ve seen you, now is a perfect time to schedule an appointment. You can take advantage of any remaining dental insurance benefits you have available before they reset at the beginning of January.
If you have any questions about how to floss or want to learn about products that we recommend, please contact us at our location in Kewaskum, WI. We hope you have a fabulous time flossing away, and we look forward to your next appointment.
