Ways To Keep Your Kids Smiling This Summer
June has arrived, which only means one thing – Summer Vacation! Children rejoice over summer vacation due to the lack of school responsibilities, longer days, and endless amounts of fun. Days are spent lounging, playing with friends, swimming, and enjoying the outdoors. Thankfully, this summer, children are able to enjoy more of the traditional summer experience, as last year that really wasn’t an option. Families are seeing each other again, and vacations have been planned. With all of the fun that is happening, it is important that you keep your children’s oral health in mind because a dental emergency can really put a damper on your summer. With these tips, we want to make sure that your child has a happy summer and a healthy mouth.
Maintain Oral Health Routines
Although the days are longer and filled with activities, it is important that children are still brushing and flossing as normal. A change in an oral health routine can lead to decay and cavities, which is no fun to experience during summer vacation. If a trip is planned, we suggest making sure that all dental essentials are packed. It is no fun to be on vacation and have to search around an unfamiliar area for toothbrushes or toothpaste.
Prepare and Pack Healthy Snacks and Drinks
Summer is an easy time to overindulge on sweets. When children are home from school, their stomachs appear bottomless and they are always on the hunt for snacks. We recommend preparing and stocking up on healthy snacks such as fresh fruit, vegetables, yogurt, and cheese. We also suggest packing some healthy snack and drink alternatives if you are planning an outing or day trip. While a sweet treat on occasion during the summer is something to enjoy, eating too many sweets can lead to an unexpected dental visit.
Schedule Routine Examinations
The summer is a perfect time to schedule a hygiene appointment or examination. If your child has not visited our office within the past six months, we would love to see them soon. The summer is also a wonderful time to visit our office to have your child’s teeth evaluated for their orthodontic needs.
