Cold Laser Therapy
Dental decay, TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder) complications, and orthodontic treatment can leave your mouth feeling a bit tender and uncomfortable at times. Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a treatment plan that could help with those issues? Lucky for you, we have been introducing our patients to cold laser therapy to assist with discomfort and inflammation. Cold laser therapy uses low levels of light to stimulate healing during or after a procedure. This low-intensity laser therapy is called “cold” due to the lack of heat used on your body’s tissues, unlike laser therapy used during certain cancer treatments, which uses heat to destroy tumors.
This painless and noninvasive treatment uses wavelengths and different outputs of low-level light at a targeted area to cause a reaction to damaged body tissue cells. The affected body tissue responds to the light treatment by regenerating and healing itself. We have been using this treatment with much success on the teeth, head, and neck to assist with:
- TMD complications – Because TMD affects the jaw and hinge that is used when opening and closing the mouth for eating and speaking, we have been able to use cold laser therapy to assist with jaw discomfort and tenderness. Taking only minutes for a set number of sessions can really make a difference in your life.
- Orthodontic Treatment – The removal of traditional metal brackets and wires is no walk in the park. There is some related discomfort, and this therapy can be used to provide a more comfortable and pleasant experience.
We are so excited to share about cold laser therapy after our recent course in Milwaukee where we learned more about this treatment. Our staff is always excited for an opportunity to continue our education and bring home better treatment options to improve your care and experience with us. We are looking forward to our patients experiencing the benefits of this treatment option, especially those dealing with TMD.
