Help Your Child Have a Positive Dental Experience
If you are a parent or caregiver for a young child, you want what’s best for them. While honesty is always the best policy, there are times when adults can be too honest with children. One of those times is before a dental appointment in which a dental treatment is needed. If you share too much information, you can create a situation where the child becomes fearful before they even visit the office. We want to share some helpful tips to make the dental appointment a smooth process for all involved:
Don’t Transfer Your Fear
We know that we have patients who are fearful of the dentist. It is extremely important that you do not transfer your fear to your child or young loved one. Be sure to speak about the dentist and the office in a positive way. Please know that we have your child’s best interests at heart when we are recommending and performing a treatment.
Do Not Go Into Detail
It is best if you remain vague about the appointment and do not get into too much detail. You can explain a little bit about the reason for the visit, but by all means, do not mention anything about a needle or drill before the appointment. If your child has received vaccines from their pediatrician, they will immediately think of a negative experience when the word “needle” is mentioned.
